Possible Rogue Traders

Kent Police received information suggesting that individuals may have been canvassing in the East Langdon area offering roofing repairs and property maintenance work.  Whilst no offences have been reported in relation to that incident, the circumstances are consistent with reports often associated with doorstep traders.

In addition, Kent Police is currently dealing with separate reports of suspected rogue trader activity elsewhere in the district and has taken enforcement action in relation to those incidents.  Whilst there is no information at this time to suggest a direct link with the activity reported in East Langdon, it serves as a timely reminder for residents, particularly elderly and vulnerable members of our communities, to exercise caution when approached by unsolicited traders.

I would be grateful if you could consider sharing the following advice with residents through your usual communication channels:

• Be cautious of anyone cold-calling at your property offering roofing, driveway, garden, or other maintenance work.
• Do not feel pressured into agreeing to work on the doorstep.
• Obtain written quotations from reputable companies before committing to any work.
• Consider using Kent Trading Standards Checked to find vetted local traders: https://tschecked.kent.gov.uk/              
• Ask for identification and verify company details independently.
• Never make immediate payments following an unsolicited approach.
• Look out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours who may be more susceptible to this type of activity.
• Report any suspicious behaviour, vehicles or individuals to Kent Police via 101, online at https://www.kent.police.uk/ro/report/, or via 999 if a crime is in progress.
